Mission Statement

The Jacob J. Salazar Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to helping Rio Grande High School graduates continue their education at the University of New Mexico.

Jacob Salazar was the Salutatorian for the Rio Grande High School Class of 2015. He was a student-athlete and embraced the challenge of balancing academics and athletics. He knew how to work hard but always found time to play hard. Jacob’s goal was to attend the University of New Mexico and major in Mechanical Engineering. He completed his first semester at UNM before a drunk driver tragically killed him on January 9, 2016. 

Jacob’s family hopes his legacy will inspire other Rio Grande students to set goals, work hard, and achieve their dreams.
